    Definition

Arm lifting, also called inner brachial plasty or brachioplasty, allows for the removal of excess hanging arm skin. After liposuction to correct fat infiltration of the arms, an incision located in the armpit and/or on the inner part of the arm will allow for the skin to be redraped.

    Objectives

The goal of arm lifting is to tighten the skin of the inner arms. An arm lift is often combined with liposuction to remove fat accumulations.

    Surgery

Several techniques exist. Axillary lifting. The incisions are located horizontally, under the armpits. This technique is only recommended for limited skin and fat excesses. The scars are hidden in the armpit hollows. Longitudinal lifting. The incisions are located along the entire inner surfaces of the arms, sometimes from the armpits to the elbows in case of significant skin excess. They are barely visible and hidden when the arms are along the body. Combined lifting. The incisions are in the shape of a T or L: a short vertical branch on the inner surfaces of the arms and a horizontal branch in the armpit hollows. This involves a combination of the longitudinal and axillary techniques to best correct the excess skin and/or fat. Liposuction of the arms is often associated with arm lifting in case of residual fat excess.

  • Results of an Arm Lift

The results of an arm lift are gradual and not noticeable before 3 months. It takes 6 to 12 months to achieve a final result, as the tissues regain their flexibility and the scars fully fade.

  • Post-operative Care for Arm Lift Surgery

Post-operative pain is minimal, and analgesics are prescribed to manage it. A compression dressing will be applied to the arm to support the skin and ensure healing. It will be removed the day after the surgery and replaced with a compression garment. Any swelling or bruising that has occurred will disappear a few weeks after the surgery. The appearance of the scar may be red and visible for several months. Completely unpredictable, their final appearance should not be judged before 1 year. The scars must be protected from the sun.
