The DHI (Direct Hair Implantation) team consists of professionals specifically trained in addition to their initial hair implantation training. Using the implanter requires learning during the loading and insertion steps. The number of personnel required for a DHI procedure can vary based on the complexity and the number of grafts to be transplanted. Nevertheless, a DHI team requires slightly more personnel than an FUE team due to the implanter loading step. The Evolution of DHI Hair Transplant
Direct Hair Implantation (DHI) is a modern hair transplant technique that has evolved over time to provide a more advanced and effective solution to hair loss. It is based on the principles of traditional hair transplant methods, with an emphasis on improving precision, results, and patient comfort.
Early Hair Transplant Methods
Hair transplantation dates back to the 19th century, with early attempts involving the grafting of small hairy skin sections to treat baldness. However, it wasn't until the late 20th century that modern techniques like Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT) and Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) were introduced. These methods involved extracting hair follicles from donor areas and implanting them into recipient areas of the scalp.
Introduction to DHI Hair Transplant
The DHI hair transplant technique emerged as an evolution of the FUE technique, using a tool that had been invented several years earlier by Dr. Choi in South Korea. This implantation tool was originally designed to enhance the survival rate of hair follicles by minimizing graft manipulation during the risky insertion process. This tool was specifically designed for very straight Asian hair and allowed simultaneous incisions and insertions, just like injecting the follicle into the recipient site. This avoids excessive manipulations during insertion phases.
It wasn't until after the FUE revolution (around 2004) that DHI started gaining interest. By the late 2000s, more and more clinics began developing implanters to prevent potential graft damage during the insertion process.
Today, the DHI technique is used to enable hair transplantation without shaving, a necessary step in many FUE cases. Thanks to the combination of DHI incision and insertion movements, patients do not need to shave the recipient area for transplantation.
