Orthognathic surgery

When the upper and lower jaws do not align correctly, this can interfere with chewing, breathing, or facial aesthetics, even when orthodontics alone is not sufficient to correct it. The surgeon repositions the bone of the affected jaw, often in coordination with orthodontic treatment before and after the operation. The procedure is performed under general anesthesia and requires a few days of hospitalization.
