Radical Mastectomy
Radical Mastectomy: Removing the Breast and Underarm Lymph Nodes
A (modified) radical mastectomy removes the whole breast and the underarm lymph nodes, to treat breast cancer when breast-conserving surgery is not possible.
Key information at a glance
What is Radical Mastectomy?
When the tumor is large or multiple, or the underarm lymph nodes are involved, the surgeon removes the whole breast with the axillary lymph nodes. The chest muscles are preserved. Breast reconstruction can be considered at the same time or later; it is quoted separately.
Multidisciplinary Care
Your file is discussed by a team of surgeons and oncologists. The price shown is a starting price: it is confirmed after the file review, depending on the stage and extent of surgery. Follow-up after you return home is coordinated with your usual oncologist.
When is Radical Mastectomy used?
The indication is confirmed after reviewing your complete medical file: mammogram, breast ultrasound and/or MRI, biopsy with pathology report (hormone receptors, HER2) and, if done, staging scans. The file is reviewed by the medical team, who confirm that surgery is the right treatment for your situation.

How long do results last?
Analysis of the breast and lymph nodes determines the stage and guides further treatment (chemotherapy, radiotherapy, hormone therapy).
