Phalloplasty ALT - Procedure Steps

Step 1: Vaginectomy, Urethral Lengthening, and Prefabrication

The first step in ALT phalloplasty involves vaginectomy, urethral lengthening, and prefabrication of the penis. This phase includes creating a new urethral opening to allow urination through the future penis. The hospital stay is about 5 nights, followed by approximately 3 weeks of on-site recovery to ensure proper healing before proceeding to the next step.

Step 2: ALT Phalloplasty and Urethral Anastomosis

The second step is the most complex, involving the creation of the phallus using a flap of skin from the thigh (ALT). During this step, the urethra is connected to the new penile structure via urethral anastomosis. This procedure requires a hospital stay of 14 nights, followed by a 6-7 week recovery period to allow complete healing and reduce the risk of complications.

Step 3: Penile Implant and Scrotoplasty

The final step involves inserting a penile implant and performing scrotoplasty to form the scrotum. This step aims to improve the functionality and aesthetic appearance of the reconstructed penis. The hospital stay is approximately 4 nights, with a recovery period of at least 2 weeks to allow proper tissue healing.
