    Beard transplant : definition

Beard transplantation is a surgical technique that involves extracting hair follicles from a donor area to implant them in the recipient area of the beard. This helps to stimulate hair growth and achieve a denser and more aesthetic beard.

    Surgery Procedure

Beard transplantation is a procedure combining FUE and BHT (Body Hair Transplantation). When performing a facial hair transplant, we will select and then remove the follicular units from the hair and then transplant them to the beard. The speed of regrowth of a hair is close to that of a beard hair.

When the beard transplant is performed abroad, the typical process includes:

    1. Preliminary consultation to assess the patient's expectations and profile
    2. Preparation of the donor area (usually the back of the neck or the sides of the head) for the extraction of hair follicles
    3. Extraction of hair follicles using the FUE technique (Follicular Unit Extraction)
    4. Preparing the beard recipient area
    5. Careful implantation of hair follicles in the recipient area

Beard transplant by FUE and BHT step by step:

Before the operation, a preoperative consultation takes place at the clinic. During this consultation, design and density issues are determined. The procedure takes place in 3 stages:

    - Extraction: the follicular units are generally removed from the back of the skull with a titanium punch with a diameter of varying from 0.7 to 0.9mm, this makes the scars almost invisible. The traces of the extraction fade after 2 weeks.

    - Preparation of the grafts: the grafts are extracted one by one then cleaned and checked under a microscope .

    - Implantation: the micro-incisions will be made on the beard according to the previously defined design. The prepared follicles are then implanted into these incisions using a needle.

  • Therapeutic indication

    Beard transplant is recommended for:

    • Men with sparse beards or thinning areas
    • Men who want to change the shape or density of their beard
    • Men who have scars or blemishes in the beard area

  • Anesthesia of the hair transplant on the face?

The procedure is performed on an outpatient basis and under local anesthesia. Local anesthesia is applied to the harvest area and to the recipient area. This means that only the donor area and the recipient area will be numbed, while the patient remains conscious during the procedure.

  • Duration of a beard transplant

The duration of the procedure varies between 6 to 8 hours, depending on the number of follicular grafts to be transplanted.

  • What beard can we expect after a beard transplant

Beard transplantation can correct various defects, and of course first of all to correct a hairless face. Beard transplantation is also used to fill insufficient density, scars, holes in the hair or redraw the shape of the beard. The result is clearly visible after an intervention and a single intervention is often sufficient to meet the objectives of 90% of patients.

    Beard transplant success statistics

Beard transplant success statistics depend on different factors, such as the quality of hair follicles removed and the skill of the surgeon. In general, the success rates are high, and the vast majority of patients achieve satisfactory results with a denser and aesthetically improved beard.

  • Recovery

After the beard transplant, it is normal to feel slight pain, swelling and redness in the treated area. These symptoms are temporary and generally disappear in the days following the procedure. It is important to follow the post-operative instructions provided by the surgeon to ensure optimal healing.

How long does it take for a full beard?

After the operation, scabs begin to form on the beard and will fall out after 7-10 days. Hair grows back between the 14th and 22nd week. It is recommended to evaluate the permanent regrowth of the beard from the 8th or 12 months. This is the time when you can give your beard the length and shape you want. A postoperative follow-up is recommended for 12 months in order to evaluate the result of the beard transplant intervention.

    Postoperative follow-up with intervention abroad

During the 12 months following the intervention, we coordinate with the doctor the postoperative follow-up of the patients. Thanks to the follow-up, the doctor can monitor the evolution of the consequences and the result and, in this way, modify the instructions (massage, healing cream, medication, etc.) if necessary.
