    Type IV Thyroplasty 
    Patients must also consult our otolaryngologist and speech therapist, preferably a few days before the surgery, to undergo a laryngeal stroboscopic examination and speech assessment. This session takes 1 to 2 hours. It's a consultation during which our otolaryngologist determines how much the patient's voice could change after the surgery. The patient can discuss the surgery during this session.

    The stitches will be removed 7 days after the surgery. The patient should stay in Thailand for further recovery for at least 2 to 3 weeks.

    The surgery is under general anesthesia - 1 night of hospitalization - Recovery time in Thailand for at least 3 weeks -
    Adam's apple shaving can be done at the same time - Incision near the Adam's apple
  • Anesthésie génerale de 1 à 2 heures. 

  • The operation normally takes 1 to 2 hours.

    Pre-operative instructions

    1. Stop smoking for at least 2 weeks before surgery 

     2. stop aspirin for at least 2 weeks before surgery 

     3. stop hormones for at least 3-4 weeks before surgery 

     4. visit to the doctor + laryngostroboscopic test (approximately 1 hour) Visit from the speech therapist and speech practice (1 week before surgery, if possible)


  • After surgery, patients should do the following:


    1. Stop talking 7-10 days after surgery. Have only a light meal.

    2. Drink a lot of water. Avoid coffee and caffeinated drinks, chocolate, peppermint, carbonated drinks, soda, alcohol and acidic foods.


    < p>Follow up with the otolaryngologist would be 7-10 days after surgery. After the first follow-up, speaking is allowed 10 minutes per hour. Patients are required to speak normally and not to shout so as not to damage the wound. The speech therapist will visit you 2 weeks after surgery. The next follow-ups with the speech therapist will be planned later; generally at 1 week, then 1, 3, 6 and 12 months after surgery via Skype.
